Manicure Monday: BB Couture LIP Collection Swatches and Review (Part 2)

I was finally able to get around to swatching the second half of the BB Couture "Ladies in Polish" collection (here is the first half).  I love how much sparkle is coming out just in time for the holidays!  These three colors are full of small holographic glitter, which is super colorful and sparkly when reflecting off of the light.

First up is the light gray "Naughty Navigator". I liked the softness of this color...it could be worn to the office, or a night out!

Next up is "Stargazed Stripper" (the names of these polishes make me giggle).  This is also a gray color, but it definitely has a green tint to it.  When I first saw this color in the bottle I thought it was the same as "Naughty Navigator", but once on the nails they look completely different.

The last color in the collection is "Galactic Stranger".  This was by far my favorite color from the "L I P" collection.  I don't even know how to describe the color.  I guess I would call it a purplish-brownish-gray...haha.  As you can tell, it looks different in various lighting.  Whatever the actual color is, I LOVE it!

Here are the swatches of all three polishes next to each other.  So pretty and sparkly.  The first two look similar in the photos, but you can really see the difference in this picture.  I used 2 coats for each, with a topcoat.  They all had great opacity and I thought the colors were very unique.

Sunday Style: The Pressure to Fit In

The other day, when Emery and I both had the day off, we took a nice scenic drive over to Park City.  Although most of the Fall leaves have dropped to the ground, there was still a little bit of color to enjoy.  It's no Oregon (I may be a little biased), but Utah's mountains do provide some nice scenery!

We stopped along the way to take a little family picture.  Not bad for just setting the camera on the bridge and using the self-timer...I can't believe both kids actually looked at the camera and smiled at the right time!

Once we got to Park City, we made our way to the outlet stores.  I found the cutest lace-up boots, which I am super excited to wear!  The kids each got a sweater and Emery was a grump, so he didn't get anything (he hates the outlet mall).

At one point in our shopping excursion I found myself in JCrew, about to purchase a cardigan that was on sale.  Then I started thinking.  The only reason I was wanting to buy that sweater was because of the name on the label.  I remember acting like that in high school, always wanting those silly sweaters that had "American Eagle" or "Abercrombie" plastered all over the front.  Why was my adult self caring so much about having the "it" brands in my closet?  I guess it's just easy to get sucked back into that mentality when all of the "popular" bloggers have certain things.  Their daily outfits consist of Anthropologie, Madewell, JCrew and even more expensive high-end brands.  But the reality of the situation is that I can't afford to shop at those stores.  I will probably never own a pair of Louboutins or a Balenciaga bag.  And that's ok, right?  Because as far as I know, the majority of the population can't afford those items either.  And this isn't high school.  So, I quietly put the cardigan back and left the store.

Texturable

Hi Everybody!!

I'm going to tell you a little about myself and my work!

I am a mother of 26 years old, entrepreneur and lover of creating.  I live in Punta Rubia (Rocha), on the east coast of Uruguay, with my boyfriend and our son that is almost two years old.  Surrounded by nature, I sleep with the sound of the ocean and wake up every day looking at its immensity.  I think I'm the luckiest person in the world and I am achieving a good balance between the two things I love most in life: family and fashion.

Right now I'm doing my thesis on dyed wool in order to graduate as an Industrial Textile Designer and in a few years I would like to continue studying.

My brand started the last year of my schooling (2009), with my graduation collection named "Texturable".  I had amazing feedback from my teachers and people in general and the collection sold out immediately.  I started to sell other versions of the collection, which had the same results.  As texturable means sustainable textures (from the Spanish “texturas sustentables”), I kept working with that concept.  I decided to use the name that I already had and build the brand from there.  I always knew I wanted to work by myself and this gave me the opportunity to develop something I love to do, with something that people want and like.

Why are my pieces special? First of all, I make most of the materials used in the clothes and different items I design.  I do research, develop and create textures that are later applied to the different collections.  That's why the starting point goes further than just choosing a genre to make an outfit.  Each item is conceived from its material until the last detail.  My items are completely handcrafted.  Felts, dyes, embroideries, everything is handmade;  I create everything with dedication and patience.  Occasionally I work with other people, mainly for big productions or in making shoes, but I always have the rule of making everything first by myself.  Most of my items are one of a kind, meaning they are unique as a result of its handcrafted production, which provides singularity and relevance to every piece of clothing.  All my clothes carry energy and expression and, in this sense, I try to put all my dedication toward expressing that in who will wear it.

I happen to love layering tees, so I'm really excited about this new line of basics!  Especially the fact that the necklines on the tops are a little lower...the ones I currently own are a tad too high for my liking.  In my opinion, the whole point of an undershirt is to cover just enough skin to keep my outfit modest, because I am usually just wearing them under a sheer top or under something that doesn't have long enough sleeves.  Kingdom & State also has great prices, so go check them out!  You can also follow along on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest!

All That Glitters is Not Gold, but it Sure is Pretty

I love dressing up in fancy attire.  Sometimes I wish my husband had a bigwig job where he got invited to cocktail parties.  I don't drink, but I would love getting all dolled up for the occasion!  Even though Emery isn't Don Draper (yet), I'm sure there will be some holiday parties to attend this year...and this dress from Lulus.com will be the perfect thing to wear!  

I don't know about you, but I have the hardest time finding a modest semi-formal dress.  Almost every one I've seen is strapless, or just has little spaghetti straps.  Those styles of dresses require me to wear some type of jacket on top, which can really take away from the dress itself.  This dress has just the right amount of coverage and I don't have to add anything to it!  Another thing I love is that it's really long, which is usually not the case for this 5'9" lady.  In the future I will be wearing this dress with heels, but I didn't have any that looked right, so I went with some gold sandals.  What color of heels would you wear with this dress?  I think I would want to stick with gold, but I'm not sure...any ideas?

Zoya Ornate Collection Swatches and Review

I am so excited about the new Winter collection from ZOYA nail polish! The Ornate collection is full of sparkle and includes 6 beautiful shades that are perfect for the holidays.  

Up first is "Logan".  In my opinion, this is the perfect Christmas green...I know I will be using this a lot in December!  It has a slight goldish-yellow tint and very shimmery finish.  This color was very opaque in two coats.

Next up is "Aurora".  This pinkish-purple polish has a gorgeous holographic effect, with lots of sparkly glitter.  This was less opaque than most of the other colors and probably could have used a third coat, but it's pretty either way.

"Blaze" is definitely one of my favorites in the Ornate collection.  It's a glittery raspberry-red, with a holographic shimmer.  Perfectly opaque in two coats.

This yellow-gold foil is "Ziv".  This is my least favorite color in this collection.  Not that it isn't a pretty color...it just looks horrible on my skin tone.  Other pale people might have the same problem, but I can see this being gorgeous on darker skin.

The next polish is "Electra".  This is a clear polish with tons of silver bar glitter (some small pieces and some large).  At first I thought this was only meant to be a top coat, for layering over other polishes, but the glitter is so thick...I think it works better all on its own!  However, I do want to try brushing it over a plain dark color.

My absolute favorite color in the ZOYA Ornate collection is "Storm".  I never thought I could see myself sporting black nails, but the holographic glitter in this polish makes it so much better than your average black polish!  It's really hard to photograph this beauty, so you will just have to trust me on this one!  This was also very opaque in two coats.

I also wanted to see what a couple of the other colors looked like on top of "Storm".  I love the way both "Aurora" (left) and "Blaze" (right) looked with the black base!
