Manicure Monday: Zoya Lovely Collection

Zoya nail polish has just released their Spring 2013 collection and it's full of pretty pastels.  The "Lovely" collection features 3 shimmery shades (purple, yellow, pink) and 3 cream shades (blue, green, nude).

The lavender shimmer is Zoya "Julie".  It's my favorite in the collection (probably because purple is my favorite color).

This yellow shimmer is "Piaf".  I thought I was going to absolutely hate this one, but it turns out I kind of like it!  I wouldn't wear it right now, but for Spring and Summer it's a great shade!

Zoya "GeiGei" is a light pink shimmer.  This is one of my favorites, because it is soft and feminine, which makes it perfect for work or it's great if you just like to have a subtle nail polish.

This pastel blue cream polish is Zoya "Blu".  It's pretty, but it was kind of hard to get this one even for some reason.

Zoya "Neely" is a minty spring green.  I can see myself wearing this one a lot.

The last color in the "Lovely" collection is Zoya "Jacqueline".  It's a nude cream color and these pictures can't do it justice.  It's actually my new favorite nude shade.

All in all, I like this new collection.  The soft pastel shades are subtle and pretty.  I don't think pastels look too great with my skin tone, but I do like these colors.  They are all fairly opaque, but definitely require two coats.  Just looking at these colors is making me excited for Spring (or at least I'm excited for the cold weather to go away)!

Zoya nail polish retails for $8 and can be purchased at Zoya.com.

Welcome to Plane Pretty

With the end of the year only two days away, I decided it was the perfect time to revamp this little blog of mine.  For a while now I've had an overwhelming urge to shift my focus a bit and become more of a "lifestyle blogger".  I want this to be a place where I can share more about my various interests.  I want this to be a place where I can document my travels and experiences as a flight attendant.  Most importantly, I want this to be a place where I can be myself.

Outfit posts will still be a regular occurrence (I still have to get dressed after all!) and many other aspects of this blog will remain the same.  However, I want this blog to be more genuine...more REAL.  So, Modern Modest Beauty is now Plane Pretty.  These two words sum up my career/love of travel, as well as my interest in fashion/beauty/other pretty things.

Change is inevitable.  People grow and priorities shift.  What started out as motivation to get out of my sweatpants has grown into a blog with far more readers than I ever expected.  But it's time for me to make a slight adjustment and I'm pretty excited about it (and a little nervous).  I'm so very thankful for those of you who read my posts and leave such sweet comments.  I've made some great friends through blogging and those relationships and connections I make are the main reason I keep posting.  I really hope those of you who have been following along for a while will keep reading.  If you are a new reader I encourage you to stay a while and I would love for you to follow along and join me on my adventures in fashion and flight!

Please make sure you update your bookmarks and I would love for you all to like the Plane Pretty Facebook Page (since Facebook wouldn't let me move my followers or change the name of my old page).  You can also find me on Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram or RSS.  Thanks so much for your support and I can't wait to see what the new year has in store!

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! This was the Christmas card I sent out to all of my family members.  Sorry it's kind of blurry, but I promise it's super cute in person.  They were made for me by Modern Greetings and I think they turned out great!  I especially loved that I could have my return address printed on the envelope, so I didn't have to write it out by hand on every single one (cause let's face it, I'm lazy).

Well, today was pretty great.  My parents came to visit, we ate some yummy food and opened up our gifts!  I absolutely loved seeing the joy and excitement on my kid's faces as soon as they saw all the presents under the tree.  They must have been pretty good this year, because Santa brought them exactly what they had asked him for...bikes!  I can't wait until the weather warms up (which won't be for a long time here in Utah) so they can get busy riding around the neighborhood.

P.S. I'm not excited about cleaning up my house, but I guess it was worth it :)

Manicure Monday: Sparkly Christmas Nails

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I'm guessing no one is even reading blogs today, but I still had to post my Christmas manicure.  I am in LOVE with my December Julep Maven box.  I decided to upgrade to the full collection for the month, because there were so many great glittery colors...and I don't regret that decision one bit!  I highly recommend getting the Julep Maven membership.  I think it's so much fun to get new polishes delivered to my house every month.  It only costs 1 penny (plus shipping) to try it out when you use my link and the promo code MODERNMODESTBEAUTY at checkout and you can cancel at any time!

Today I used Julep Cindy (green shimmer), Scarlett (red with micro-glitter), and Julia (golden purple shimmer).  I probably should have used a different gold polish, since it has a purplish tint it looks more bronze on top of the red polish...but I think it's pretty festive either way!  Julia is actually my favorite of the colors and I can't wait to wear it on it's own!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Sunday Style: Some More Favorites

The Serena Saga
Fabu-less In Heels
Method Clothe

You know what I realized after I picked out my favorites from last week's Sunday Style link-up?  All three of them are really similar!  I guess I must really be in the mood for the skirt & cardigan combo!  Each of these looks are so classy and these ladies look wonderful in their outfits, don't you think?  I promise I will actually have an outfit for next Sunday.  Things have been so crazy this month...I'm guessing most of you have been super busy this month as well!

Also, just so you know...I'm going to be making some changes to this blog.  I will have a post explaining everything later this week, but basically I want this to be a place that better reflects me as a person.  I also want it to be an outlet where I can share more than just modest fashion.  Don't get me wrong, there will still be a lot of outfit posts and Sunday Style is definitely here to stay, but I want it to be more than that.  Changing my blog is a scary process and it makes me kind of nervous, but I hope you lovely readers will stick around :)

Ok...now show me what you have been wearing this past week!  Here are the rules:

1. Link up to a specific outfit post, not your main blog page.
2. Grab a button and add it to your post (a text link is also fine).
3. Comment on this post and at least one other post...the whole point is to visit each other!

Dressing for the holidays

The holidays can be a stressful time of year, at least for me.  There is so much decorating, shopping, baking and rushing around to various events.  Don't get me wrong, I love all of those things, but sometimes it can be hard to get everything done!  Well...today I'm hoping I can help take a tiny bit of that stress out of your lives, by giving you some last minute outfit inspiration for those special holiday parties and events.

The first look would be appropriate for some of the more formal events, such as a cocktail party or fancy dinner.  Since the gold maxi dress was already a bit flashy, I wanted to go simple with everything else.  I just added a gold clutch, some earrings and left my hair down.  I don't go to very many events that have a formal dress code, but it's fun to get all dressy every once in a while!

The second outfit I put together is what I'd feel most comfortable in.  I could definitely see myself wearing this pretty lace Mikarose dress to a work or church Christmas party!  It's fancy, without being too formal.

This last look is for those of you ladies who like to keep things a little more casual.  Since it's the holidays, you still want to look festive and put together.  All you need is some black pants, a pair of heels (or flats), and a blouse with a little bit of sparkle!  This outfit was comfortable, yet still dressy enough for a work party or family get together.

So...what type of outfits are you planning on wearing to your holiday events?

Vintage + Modest = A Perfect Match, by Liza of Better Dresses Vintage

Vintage clothing offers endless opportunities for the modest dresser to showcase her individuality and style, without showing it all.

Take skirts, for example. With the exception of 60s minis, vintage skirts are cut longer than similar styles available today. Not only are they more suitable to a modest lifestyle, they're far more flattering.

Source and Source

Compare these images of Gwyneth Paltrow. If a movie star looks leaner and more elegant in a slightly longer skirt, wouldn't we all?

I certainly think so. Yet, as many of you have no doubt discovered, for those of us who'd rather not resemble a "Real Housewife," it can be challenging to find knee-length or longer skirts at the local mall.

And that's where vintage comes in! With vintage clothing, modest cuts are the rule rather than the exception.

No matter your personality or body type, there are vintage styles to suit your taste and your lifestyle. From 20s flapper dresses to 80s party frocks, you can be fashionable, not frumpy, in vintage.

Here are just a few examples of stylish vintage options for all those upcoming holiday parties:

 1960s Purple Wiggle Dress
 70s Baroque Stripe Dress
40s New Look Velvet Party Dress

And it goes well beyond party dresses. Vintage skirts, sweaters, dresses and accessories can fit beautifully and affordably into your modest everyday wardrobe.

The best part? Clothes of the past were made to last, and unless you're seeking out rare or high-end designer labels, vintage offers the very best value for your money.

I need a nap

Sweater: c/o Lulu's, Jeans: Old Navy, Boots: Bass, Necklace: Simply Livly

I know you saw most of this outfit in my last post, but I got sent off to work and have absolutely NO time to share anything else with you right now!  I CAN NOT WAIT until life calms down a little bit.  I feel like I have been going non-stop and I could really use a nice relaxing vacation right about now.  Maybe a nice, warm and secluded beach?  Or possibly taking a leisurely stroll through an old European city, gazing at the beautiful architecture and eating crepes.  Either one will do.  Speaking of travel...I think there are going to be some changes to this blog pretty soon :)

Clip in human hair extensions review

I've been wanting to try out hair extensions for a long time now, but I didn't want to commit to the sewn-in or glued-in hair.  So, when Best Hair Buy asked me if I would like to review their cheap clip-in hair extensions I jumped at the opportunity!

I already have long hair, but it definitely isn't as full of body as I would like.  I've always been envious of those ladies blessed with thick, curly hair.  It takes me a while to curl my hair and (as you can see from the before pics) it still isn't super voluminous after curling it.  I was so excited when I clipped in the hair extensions and they instantly gave my hair more body!

You can't see much of a difference from the front, but in the back you can really see the results.  I didn't even use all of the hair pieces!  The quality of the hair is great too.  I'm always scared to order these kinds of products online, since you can't see what it looks like right in front of you...so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw and felt how nice the extensions were!

I love that you can brush, wash, curl and even dye these hair extensions (since they are human hair).  One thing I learned is that it's easiest to curl the extensions before putting them in your hair.  This is probably obvious to everyone else, but I just didn't think about it beforehand.

You can find these clip-in hair extensions at besthairbuy.com and you can also follow Best Hair Buy at facebook.com/besthairbuy, youtube.com/besthairbuy, and twitter.com/besthairbuy.

Manicure Monday: Christmas Light Nails

I decided that it was time for some Christmas nail art.  I had seen a few manicures with Christmas lights on Pinterest, so I figured I would give it a try!  First I painted on the white base color, which is Butter London "Pearly Queen".  Next I painted the black cord with Sinful Colors "Time Off".  This was probably the hardest part, cause I'm not great at making lines with nail polish.  After the cord was painted on it was time to add the lights.  The red is Pretty Serious "Nightmaren", the blue is Zoya "Song", the green is Zoya "Logan", and the orange is Sinful Colors "Cloud 9".

It may not be perfect, but my kids love it!  Are you planning on giving yourself a holiday manicure?  I'm trying to figure out some different nail art for next week's Manicure Monday, so let me know if you have any good ideas!

Sasha from Moiology
Cassidy from Things Like Skeleton Keys

Holiday Gift Guide with Fashion Utah

Two of our favorite trends this season are winter whites and oxblood red. Perfect colors for the holiday, they are great options for fashion lovers as stocking stuffers and gifts. The colors are classic and neither color will ever truly go out of style - which makes a perfect gift for that loving BFF or trendy sister-in-law. So, check out some of our local recommendations for that special friend in your life and perhaps pick up one or two for you!

1. White Bib Necklace at The Nest On Main { $15 } Bib necklaces are all the rage this season, so throw this in your girlfriend or daughter's stocking for great style.

2. Key West Wrap by Tiia Lin { $60 } This vegan, hand-knit scarf is made by Utah local Tiia Lin. The lightweight cotton will give a unique look and keep its wearer warm this winter. Perfect for a student or anyone spending time out in the cold, throw this scarf in a backpack for an extra gift-giving layer.

3. Red Teardrop Earrings by Hoopla Hoopla { $12 } Painted and sealed, these metal earrings give a great flash of color. They are popping up in Utah boutiques and sell out fast, so for those girls who love bling (but need something they can wear to work), try these statement earrings.

4. White Ava Dress at Whimsy Lane { $56 } This white dress comes complete with a bubble hem and pleats for a feminine feel. Throw it on with colorful accessories to spice it up for working women, then package it up for under the tree.

5. The Flektor Watch in Blood Red by (kno)name { $40 } What teenager doesn't want to feel like a secret agent as they roam the halls of school? Both a mini-mirror and watch, boys and girls will dig its unique design.

7. Goji & Tarocco Vulspa Candle at Got Beauty { $24 } One of our personal all-time favorite candles, consider giving this candle to that BFF or mother needing a spa night at home. The aroma is heavenly and relaxing. Then throw in a good book and bath salts to perfect the evening.

8. Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers Nail Polish from Got Beauty { $18 } Long wearing and quick drying, this polish is perfect for the girl who loves to go out on the town. Throw it in Got Beauty's free leopard wrapping to add a spark to her night.

9. Red Long-Sleeved Blouse at Apricot Lane in Provo Sequins and collars are all the rage this season. If your friend or sister even reads a fashion blog, this is the blouse for her!

10. OPI An Affair In Red Square at Got Beauty { $8.50 } Classic yet modern traditional, this red shade is perfect for the modest, trendy woman. Consider spoiling that mother-in-law with a great new color she can wear around town.

11. Trade Winds Dress at Shabby Apple { $68 } Is your BFF still dreaming of the summer and merely "surviving" the winter? This sweet dress is light and airy for the spring, but easily convertible for winter looks with a great pair of boots.

12. All The Way Down Top at Cotton Blossom { $43 } This sweet blouse is perfect for the younger girls you're buying for. Target tweens and teens as the lace will make an older woman look aged. It is perfet for that cousin or neice heading back to school after the break.

13. All Aboard Dress at Shabby Apple { $109.00 } We all have a classy lady in our lives who motivates us to be our best. This dress is dignified and is perfect for the wisest, yet modern woman in your life.

14. Etta Ruana Sweater by Tiia Lin { $130 } Perfect for your legging-wearing, skinny-jean-loving friends, this cozy sweater will take your girlfriend from the grocery store to dinner with the girls. This is a perfect gift for any lady who loves comfort, warmth and style.

15. Table Topic Cube at Got Beauty For all your party-hosting friends, this great conversation starter is perfect for any family who loves to conversate or for any get-together that rejects television and electronics as party entertainment.

I love the idea of supporting local businesses this holiday season and I think this collection of items, put together by Fashion Utah, is a great representation of what the "beehive state" has to offer! Fashion Utah has teamed up with Apricot Lane Provo for a "Shop Local" campaign.  No matter where you live, I think it's important to help area businesses thrive in your community.  So, as you finish up your last-minute Christmas shopping, try to find a few gifts from a local business...I'm sure they will appreciate your support!

Kelsey Bang Giveaway

You guys are going to LOVE this giveaway, I guarantee it!  Ok, maybe I don't guarantee it (cause maybe you don't like good things)...but I just adore the cute stuffed animals from Kelsey Bang!  She is just the sweetest person ever and she has offered to give away 3 items from her shop, which means THREE winners!  I will give you more details about the giveaway in a second, but first let me tell you a little more about Kelsey and her cute Etsy store.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Kelsey at a few blogger events and she is so nice and funny and fashionable and...ok, I'll stop.  But seriously, she is awesome and I know we are going to become good friends!  She blogs about all kinds of things: food, style, life and legos...yes LEGOS.  I thought she was joking at first when she was talking about them, but this girl really does love her legos!

I love when people have quirky interests.  I personally collect unicorns, which most people probably think is totally weird, but that brings me to my next item of discussion...Kelsey's shop!  She sells THE CUTEST stuffed narwhals.  These fun creatures are the unicorns of the sea, so I automatically love them too!

My adorable gray narwhal under the Christmas tree!

In addition to narwhals, Kelsey Bang makes stuffed elephants and super cute bow ties for babies, toddlers and adults!  Today she is giving away 3 separate prizes: a gray/white chevron elephant, a black/white polka dot narwhal, and a bowtie of the winner's choice!  Make sure to enter using the Rafflecopter widget below.  The giveaway is only open to those with a U.S. shipping address and will run through Sunday, December 16th.  Good luck :)
