Maxi Dress: Target, Under shirt: c/o Halftee, Sandals: Target |
I saw this tribal print maxi dress at Target and fell in love! The pattern is fun, the colors are bright and it's super comfy. The problem was...I just don't do sleeveless dresses. Luckily the Halftee found it's way into my life!
Although I am not a big fan of basic tees underneath tank tops and sleeveless dresses (I call it the "Utah Look"), there are just some instances when there is no other option. I could probably wear a cardigan over this dress, but let's be realistic...it's Summer and I prefer not to be drenched in sweat.
One of the things I usually hate about layering tees is the added bulk. A lot of the time you can see the lines, the shirt bunches up and the extra fabric just makes me look bigger. However, the Halftee only covers to the top of the ribcage, so this is not a problem!
What do you think? Would you ever consider wearing a shirt underneath a dress like this?
I've wondered about these. Did it feel weird? Or are you now a half tee fan? You look super cute btw. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It didn't feel any different than a regular shirt. I thought it might be uncomfortable where it cuts off, but honestly I didn't even notice it all day. I have seen them in the mall and always thought they would feel weird, so I was kind of surprised :)
DeleteLove the ikat print dress! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI like the UT look:) You look so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and the sandals - but the backdrop is gorgeous too!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress! And I like your new design!
ReplyDeleteOh thanks, I'm still working on it a little bit. I'm glad you like it!
DeleteLove your maxi dress - it's super cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd I see you are located in UT by the way, me too! Well, most of the time because sometimes I am in CA as well! My fam lives in UT. :)

Love the dress -- REALLY cute! I think the Halftee is a great solution for summer.
ReplyDeleteI see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have done this myself different times, due to the fact that a couple of dresses of that style I found were so pretty, and I wanted to be able to wear them, but they were polyester, and I can't wear polyester - it makes me sweat, uck...so, my solution is to wear a little t-shirt under them. No sweating, and I get the pretty factor in there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I, like you, do my best to keep the modesty factor in there. Sometimes inconvenient, but so worth it in my book!
I am definitely not a fan of the tshirts under dresses thing, but I haven't really found an awesome solution. I think the shorter the sleeves the better, like cap sleeves maybe, though I do sometimes try wide strap tanks. I also think if the neckline is not too high then that helps, too.
ReplyDeleteCute outfit!
ReplyDeleteI'm hosting a blender giveaway... would love to have you enter :-)

I love this dress! And I really want to try one of the half tees. Also...I am really loving your new blog design :)
ReplyDeleteYou should totally try one! And thank you so much! I feel like it is more "me" :)
ReplyDeleteYou are wearing it well girl! I would consider it as long as the fabrics of the tee and dress could match up... There's something way too funny about a ribbed cotton tee and a satin dress... hahaha.
ReplyDeleteohmygoodness, I was JUST talking about this! Like I love these cute summer dresses, but how do you style them (ie, cover more skin) without defeating the purpose of it being a summer time flowy thing. I wish someone would just make them with a more work/church/nursingbra friendly neckline and sleeve in the first place, you know?
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty! I love your maxi dress(: Also you are rocking the half tee!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cecilia!
ReplyDeletelove the maxi dress! I have mixed feelings about the UT look. When I moved here I swore Iwould never ever wear a plain tshirt under a dress like that, but its so easy, and maxi dresses are so comfy. Its my favorite as far as comfort goes, as far as style, I still don't like it. But sometimes its so worth it. You look super super cute though. And I'm following you now :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Growing up my sis and I weren't allowed to wear sleeveless and we wore soft knit shirts with sleeveless dresses a lot.
ReplyDeleteI've never liked the t-shirt under dresses look much, either, but like you said, sometimes it's the only option. I think the HalfTees are so comfy and are just a bit more dressed up than a plain cotton tee (I just did a review of them not too long ago as well). You look really nice in the dress!
ReplyDeleteThe dress perfectly fits you Jenny and I love the refreshing surroundings in your picture.
